What is happening in the kitchens of the Lil’Home restaurant, in the Chartrons district of Bordeaux? The establishment has just made its change of chef official on Instagram. Louis Becan takes over from Lilian Douchet, former “Top Chef” candidate who opened this restaurant in May 2022 with his cousin.
In a press release, the establishment added that “following the unanimous wish of the restaurant team to stop working alongside them, and her resignation, Lilian Douchet had to leave the restaurant”. A letter dating from November 18 is also pinned on Lil’Home’s Instagram wall. We learn that that evening, the restaurant had closed its doors, “the Lil’Home team refusing to work with chef Lilian Douchet because of his violent behavior towards them, his verbal abuse, his threats “. The situation was “no longer tenable” and the team feared for its “physical and psychological integrity”, it is still written in this letter.
“Every time Lilian came back from Paris, the team had a lump in their stomach”
Contacted by 20 minutes, a member of the restaurant team explains that “the situation had been tense for a while between the team members and Lilian, because he had abusive behavior with the teams, with insults, threats… Every time When Lilian returned from Paris, the team had a sinking feeling in their stomachs. » The chef actually traveled between his Parisian establishment Dame Augustine, and Lil’Home in Bordeaux.
In November 2023, Lilian Douchet announced her intention to resign from her status as manager of the establishment. “He abandoned us, we found ourselves without a chef, that’s when the second manager promoted Louis Becan to head of the kitchen,” continues the member of the catering team. This displeased Lilian Douchet, and on November 18 he called a person from the team, threatened her, and he said that he was coming… We felt obliged to protect ourselves, by closing the establishment this that day. »
“I have never threatened anyone,” assures Lilian Douchet
Also contacted by 20 minutes, Lilian Douchet presents a completely different version. “All this is defamation, I am not a violent person, I have never threatened anyone, I am even rather benevolent, even if I sometimes raise my voice during a service when there is a heat stroke. »
According to the ex-candidate of “Top Chef”, it is an internal conflict with his associated cousin which is at the origin of all this hoopla. “I actually left the management of Lil’Home three months ago, because my cousin didn’t pay me for a year and a half. I got fed up, and after setting up the team at Lil’Home, winning an award at the last Fork’s Awards, I decided to leave to concentrate on my other projects. Today, people are trying to harm me with these accusations. » We also contacted Lilian Douchet’s other restaurant, Dame Augustine, where an associate, Julie, assures that she has “never seen Lilian violent with anyone”.
Today, the Bordeaux restaurant explains that “it’s a page that is turning for Lil’Home” and that its “united” team is now “looking to the future”. If Lilian Douchet no longer has any function within the establishment, he remains for the moment one of the two shareholders.
