Game news “The world of video games is currently a disaster”, with layoffs in shambles, some personalities in the industry no longer believe in the future
The video game industry is doing poorly and has been experiencing a wave of cancellations and mass layoffs for several months. A tough time to live through for many, including this famous actor who saw three of his projects fall through in the space of a few days.
The world of video games is in crisis
As we know, the video game industry is going through a major crisis which is reflected in a significant wave of mass layoffs which began last year. Last January, layoffs occurring during the month represented nearly 60% of the total layoffs for 2023. A nightmarish start to the year, as major companies like Microsoft, Riot Games, Unity, Twitch, and even Sega announced the dismissal of thousands of employees. In total, more than 6,000 people have lost their jobs since 2024. A terrible crisis, which also leads to the cancellation of numerous projects. A situation which strongly affects the actor Elias Toufexis.
The message of a disillusioned actor
One of the latest heartbreaking announcements to date is Embracer Group which has decided to lay off employees from Eidos Montreal. Layoffs that led to the cancellation of a new Deus Ex game. A devastating announcement for many, including Elias Toufexis, a famous voice actor who lends his voice to Adam Jensen, the protagonist of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The actor expressed his dismay on Twitter/X.
Deus Ex got canceled. This other massive game I was both acting and directing on got canceled and a third game I was acting and directing on got reworked and now starting from scratch, whole new team.
The video game world is a disaster zone right now.

Deus Ex has been canceled. That other massive game I played and directed was canceled and a third game I played and directed was reworked and is now starting from scratch, with a whole new team. The video game world is currently a disaster.
Shortly after posting this message tinged with despair and pessimism, the actor wanted to reassure his followers by assuring that he was well, and that he had “several projects under his belt”. However, he ends by saying that “games are in a strange place right now” and we can only agree.
