Yes, FC Barcelona is doing well. Trailing twice by the modest Granada team, penultimate in the championship, the Blaugrana still managed to snatch a point from a draw (3-3). Never really in the game, they relied on Lamine Yamal, 16, to avoid suffering even greater disillusionment. The young prodigy saved his team by scoring a double which will not be enough to achieve a third success in a row in La Liga. In the standings, Barça only takes one point from Girona, runner-up to Real Madrid, which remains five steps ahead.
We will not be able to properly gauge this FC Barcelona this season. While there was an opportunity to get closer to second place, Xavi’s men showed a very inconsistent face against Granada, an Andalusian team which has not won many matches in recent months. From one meeting to another, Barça can be flamboyant or exasperating. This Sunday evening, the coin landed on the wrong side.
Barça chased the score
However, despite a sluggish start, the Catalans opened the scoring thanks to Lamine Yamal, who perfectly took a diving cross from Joao Cancelo, at the end of a great collective action (1-0, 14th). Unfortunately, they did not capitalize on this goal to dominate their opponents.
Well established and active on the ball carrier, Granada also took advantage of certain holes in the Catalan defense. It was then that Ricard Sanchez equalized on a service from Facundo Pellistri towards the near post (1-1, 43rd). Martin Hongla had just saved on his line, against Robert Lewandowski (41st).
The confrontation then shifted in favor of the Andalusians, who took the advantage thanks to Pellistri (1-2, 60th), after the latter came up against Marc-André ter Stegen (58th). Lewandowski’s quick equalizer with a powerful strike in the middle (2-2, 63rd)? It did not have the expected effect on his team, which once again went to find the ball in the back of its net, because of a header from Ignasi Miquel (2-3, 66th).
Yamal close to the hat-trick
FC Barcelona was therefore heading towards a rather unfortunate poor performance, especially for a team which has a Champions League round of 16 to play in around ten days. But, fortunately for Xavi, who threw a few tantrums on his bench, Yamal wanted to put on his boss’ costume, even though he is so young. After scratching a ball at the feet of José Callejon, he sent a nice shot from the left to put the two teams back on level terms (3-3, 81st).
In the previous action, a goal was refused to Inigo Martinez for an indisputable offside position, on a deflection from Jules Koundé (81st). The debates got a little carried away in the last minutes and the match could have gone to one side or the other, due to a double scare for Barça (82nd) or a cross shot from Yamal, close hat-trick (90th).
