There are changes on the chatbot side at Google. It is now confirmed: Bard is dead, Gemini replaces him. Gemini Pro is now available in French. At the same time, Google is launching a $20 subscription to use Gemini Ultra.
We have been anticipating this for some time: this is the end of Google Bard. Or rather the change of its name, in favor of Gemini, the name of the very latest LLM developed by Google. Gemini Pro had arrived in France, now it is there under its “ TRUE ” name. The opportunity for Google to launch Gemini Advanced, the paid version of its ChatGPT.
Gemini Advanced: what is it?
It was the well-informed Dylan Roussel who relayed on the arrival of a new offer from Google. When connecting with a VPN from the United States to gemini.google.com, a subscription is offered to us: Gemini Advanced, for 20 dollars per month. The subscription offered by Google includes:
- Access to Gemini Ultra 1.0;
- Better performance;
- Next access in Gmail, Docs and others;
- 2 TB of storage on your Google account;
- Other benefits of Google One.
Other benefits that Google One offers include a VPN, additional editing features in Google Photos, longer calls in Google Meet, and more. Gemini Advanced only appears to be available in the US at the moment and for English queries only. The subscription seems similar to what Microsoft offers with Copilot Pro or OpenAI with ChatGPT Plus.
Bard officially becomes Gemini
With this subscription, Google’s artificial intelligence tools are also brought into line. Google seems to be permanently removing its brand. Bard » for the benefit of Gemini. As a reminder, this is first of all a set of large language models (LLM) developed by Google. It has three versions:
It remains to be seen if Google changes the name of Assistant with Bard, the voice assistant on which the publisher is working and which could ultimately replace Google Assistant. We can logically think that in the coming months, it would be renamed Assistant with Gemini.
Finally an app for Gemini
Unlike ChatGPT or Copilot, Google had never published a Google Bard application on the Play Store or even on the App Store. With the arrival of Gemini, this changes. As noted by Android expert Mishaal Rahman onGoogle Gemini has its own mobile application: a page on the Play Store was published. The application is not currently available in France. Furthermore, it is only available in English.
It is also not a real application: it is rather a shortcut to the Google application. This is what the editor uses for Google Assistant or Google Lens. In the application description, we learn that Gemini can be triggered using the command “ Hey Google ”, traditionally used for Google Assistant. It also seems possible to choose Google Gemini as your voice assistant. One more clue towards the replacement of the company’s historic voice assistant.
