Edwy Plenel announced that he will leave the head of Mediapart on March 14.
MEDIA – “A handover in good order”. The journalist Edwy Plenel announced this Monday, February 12 that he will leave the head of Mediapart on March 14. Online journal, which he co-founded and of which he has been publishing director since 2008.
“ The team of Mediapart is between 25 and 45 years old, I am 71, it is normal that it lives independently of us”, he said at the microphone of France Inter, in the show Sensitive Affairs.
“ I will continue to be present through my pen, but I will no longer be the legal manager, the boss of the company”added the president and director of publication at Fabrice Drouelle’s microphone, without revealing the name of his successor.
Figure of investigative journalism
It is therefore a historical page for Mediapart which will be turned with this announced departure. Over the years, the former editorial director of World (1995-2004) will have accumulated numerous revelations to put to his credit and that of his team of journalists. Like the one targeting Jérôme Cahuzac at the end of 2012, concerning the former socialist budget minister who was ousted after lying about his secret bank account held abroad.
Under his direction, the online newspaper has also released numerous information concerning police violence or the #MeToo movement, including testimonies on Gérard Depardieu or more recently on the psychoanalyst Gérard Miller.
In the 1980s, while he was still working at the newspaper The world, several cases involving the French presidency and which Edwy Plenel was investigating, had aroused the ire of President François Mitterrand. Like that of the attack by the French secret services on the Rainbow Warrior, a Greenpeace ship which was campaigning against French nuclear tests in Polynesia.
