The rally of opponents of the A69 was still in progress this Sunday, on private land, next to the Zad de la crémade in Saïx. Some clashes took place with the police.
The mobile gendarmes faced “several dozen violent opponents” this Sunday, our sources said at midday. The Tarn prefecture also assured that “100 people were still on the site, most of them in the process of leaving. The gendarmes cleared the barricades on the Chemin de la Gascarié.”
It is on this path that opponents have tried, since Friday, to install barricades. However, the prefecture insists that this path remains free: it allows access to their homes for local residents.
A dozen tear gas this Sunday, hundreds on Friday
This Sunday, the gendarmes used at least ten tear gas grenades. For comparison, during the day of Friday, according to our information, they fired several hundred tear gas grenades. At the end of the day, train traffic on the railway line which crosses the Zad, the Mazamet-Toulouse line, was still interrupted, as it has been since Friday. Replacement buses have been in place for three days.

These tensions punctuate a turbulent weekend on the scene: as of Friday afternoon, clashes had broken out between gendarmes and opponents. The Tarn prefecture had just before announced the ban on all gatherings and demonstrations in the territory of the municipality of Saïx, where opponents of the A69 called for a “shack” on Saturday and Sunday. The high point of this gathering will remain the arrival for a few hours of the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg who, despite her international aura, only mobilized a few hundred people on site.

For the moment, the links between the prefect of Tarn and the anti-Zad cell of the Ministry of the Interior are tightening: an expulsion of the opponents present on the scene could take place in the coming days. Let us remember, however, that the opponents filed a summary judgment through the La Voie est Libre collective.
